U 16 Boys Basketball Match
This year (2004-2005) the U16 Boys team have proved an unstoppable force in the local schools Basketball League. The first game against, usually superior rivals, The American British Academy, was the starting point for the squad to prove themselves worthy opponents. The game was hard fought with some great defensive work from both teams limiting the scoring opportunities throughout. Tha game was an uphill struggle for the ABA, after some physical and tough offence and defense from the BSM team, which finally pulled them into the lead during the second half. Greg Adams was awsome on the boards rebounding at both ends to secure possession for BSM, and the fast break attack proved unstoppable through the quick hands and good shooting of Jowhar, Alan Syed and George Abd El Malak. The rest of the team contributed throughout to give a final result of 28-24, the winners being the British School-Muscat. The second game was eagerly awaited by the now confident team of the BSM as they took on the Sultan School at home. Having won against the might of the ABA, the boys started well in what would turn out to be an uncontested game as the home team rallied at a 12 point lead at half time, allowing the Sultan School to score only once! Again the partnership of Adams,Abd El Malak,Jowhar and Graham proved unstoppable as they passed well and scored through the well practiced fast break. The final score showed who was now King of the Hill in local schools U16 Basketball-BSM 29, The Sultan School 9! A great couple of games for the boys!!!The Team:Greg Adams, Alan Syed, Jowhar, Travis Graham, Sabry Al Busaidy, Hilmi Husini, Chris Miller, Faiz Riaz.
U 14 Boys Basketball Match
The U14 boys team has been practicing well and made their first appearance at The Sultan School to begin their campaign in the local school U14 Basketball League. The squad was strong with a full turn out for the BSM team. Last year the Sultan School proved far too strong and skilled as they wiped the BSM team off the floor, but this year the boys are back stronger, fitter and more skilled than before. The opening half saw many shots with little results as the score at half time was only 6-6. The Sultan School started the attack early as they picked up three quick baskets to be 12-6 ahead. A change of substitution was in order and with a strong five on court the BSM boys rallied back and took the lead with only minutes from full time through the speed and good shooting on the fast break from Aaron Moore, who was assisted well by Jack Stanley, Sean McCallum and Noel Fernandez. With only a minute remaining the scores levelled at 20-20. However, with another change to the team for fresher players, the speed, pace and good defence from Grubb, Bailey and Ahmed was too much, and with a fast break Noel Fernandez was found open for a great 15 foot shot which found nothing but net to give the visitors that 2 point lead and win the game 22-20. Another BSM victory and the first for the U14 team. Both teams contested throughout and the final result could have gone either way.... The Team: Jonny Grubb, Jack Stanley, Stuart Bailey, Basil Francis, Joel Jegarajasingham, Connor Villa, Noel Fernandez, Sean McCallum, Aaron Moore, Omar Al Said, Safwan Nizami, Ahmed Shahrabani.
