Our
school is a very special place with a Vision that calls for students to be responsible
world citizens and life-long learners who appreciate and respect the richness
and diversity of cultures. We provide students with the opportunity to achieve
excellence and develop their creative, social, emotional, intellectual and physical
growth.
We
are proud of our heritage. We believe in traditional values, such as courteous
behaviour and smart appearance. We develop enthusiasm, tolerance and a love of
learning. We promote the development of the whole individual within a dynamic,
multicultural and responsible community.
The British School-Muscat was established in 1971, in the earliest days of modern Oman, to provide a high standard of British education for English-speaking children. Starting in the house of the country's BP manager in Riyam with only three pupils, the School rapidly expanded, moving first to the Consulate Club at the British Embassy and, later, to its current location in Medinat Qaboos.
His
Majesty, Sultan Qaboos bin Said (pictured left), graciously granted the School
a Royal Charter, on 3 May 1973.
Thirty years later, the School has almost 750 students of over 50 nationalities, from ages 3 to 18, and has significantly expanded so that it has some of the best facilities available in the Gulf.
The
school has a long tradition of welcoming young people from many different countries.
Friendships develop quickly between pupils from diverse backgrounds, enabling
them to discover new cultures and appreciate perspectives different from their
own. We are committed to celebrating different cultures and enjoying the wonders
of living in Oman.
