Participation
and enjoyment of Physical Education is an important aim for the School. Our varied
programme is designed to encourage children of all ages to regard PE and sport
as essential elements of a healthy life style. The climate in Oman is hot, however,
so children are taught how to exercise in the heat and how to look after themselves.
Most
major sports are taught either during PE lessons or as extracurricular activities.
Facilities include a large, purpose-built, air-conditioned sports hall; a 25-metre
open-air swimming pool, a multi-purpose playing area, astro turf and tennis courts.
We also have access to grass football pitches and athletics stadia. Sport and
Physical Education are taught by specialist staff at all levels.
In Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, the programme is based on movement and dance, gymnastics and an introduction to skills and team games. Water skills and swimming are taught from the third term of the Reception year and we have a former Olympic swimming coach who coaches our successful teams.
There
are keen inter-house competitions in various sports, including athletics. Pupils
in Key Stage 2 and Senior School take part in friendly and competitive matches
with local schools, and in competitions throughout the Middle East, organised
by The British Schools of the Middle East (BSME).
