Northstar - Year Six's Residential Visit

On the first day as we drove through the Northstar Camp gates, a rush of excitement swept through the bus. We were all eager to know who we would be sharing a cabin with and to find out what activities we would be doing on camp. We did many different activities such as: G.P.S. navigation, rock-climbing, kayaking, raft-building, abseiling and on the last day we went snorkeling around Snoopy Island.

Our favourite ones were: the rock-climbing, abseiling and snorkeling. When climbing, we liked the way you not only had the pleasure of getting to the top, but also had to think where to put your hands and feet on the rocks.

The Year Six camp was jam-packed with team games and wonderful new experiences which we thought we would never have the chance to try. The staff made us feel so welcome and our time there so memorable. We recommend that the Year Sixes next year go and have the time of their lives!By Meghan Suddaby and Jenna Angle

We all arrived early, very excited about our trip. There were mums, dads and bags everywhere! The ten hour journey to Fujeirah was long, but we did have our friends to talk to. We sang and joked all the way there. The first thing I noticed when we arrived was the climbing wall which towered above everything else. After we had unpacked we were put into groups, had dinner and fell into out bunks at 10 o' clock.

The next morning at breakfast, we were told our activities. My group was doing abseiling and kayaking. I couldn't wait to try the abseiling! After Colin, the instructor, had explained the safety arrangements, we put on our helmets and harnesses and were ready to go. When it was my turn I raced up the wall and down again in 1 minute 8 seconds.I wish I could have had another turn: it was amazing.

The next great activity was after lunch when we went kayaking. We started off in an inflatable dinghy and practiced man-overboard drills. When the kayaks arrived we were taught how to get into them and what to do if we capsized. In the sea we lined up the kayaks, learning to balance by walking across them to swap from one kayak to another. To finish, we had to race back to shore. These are only two of the great activities on camp. If you are going to be in Year Six you must go, it is the best!
